We are having a neighborhood Halloween party this coming weekend and I wanted to make some party favors for the kids. We designed some simple tombstone boxes to fill with all sorts of yummy treats. I took this a step further by making it into a graveyard tabletop display but you could simply just hand out the favor boxes. Let me show you what I did!
To start off, we have our designs in easy, downloadable templates for you so you can create your own.
I printed out a few copies of each of our tombstone shape templates onto white card stock. Make sure you use card stock instead of regular paper, or else it won’t be heavy enough to hold up. Then, I cut them out and folded them along all of the black fold lines. If you notice, there are double lines on the front and back of the tombstone faces, don’t fold on the interior black lines, just the exterior ones. The middle ones are just for decoration.
Now, you can either use glue or double-sided tape on the wide tab portions of your boxes. Adhere the tabs to the underside of your tombstones and that’s it! Simple boxes, ready to go! You can either leave them blank or you can write on them before you fold them up.
You can take these a step farther by making a graveyard to hold your tombstones. This would be perfect as a centerpiece for a buffet table at a party. I took a large shoe box lid and painted the outside glossy black with my Plaid gloss paint.
Next, I painted some wood picket fence
with the glossy black paint and then dabbed over it with a grey paint to make it look a bit weathered. I love making things look “weathered” because it is so easy and fun to do. Sometimes it is the small things in life that make me smile.

Place your fence along the inside perimeter of your box lid, cutting it where needed to make it fit. I left a gap in the front for the entrance. My box was a little deep, which is good because the sides held up the fencing. However, I wanted my tombstone favor boxes to be up a little higher, so I lined the bottom with some of McGeeky’s laptop packing foam. Your box lid might not be as deep as mine so you might not need any extra padding.
I wanted the padding to look like the ground so I spray painted it dirt brown. On top of that, I added some moss.
Nestle your tombstone favor boxes amonst the moss and you have a graveyard centerpiece! I love how it turned out and can’t wait to show it to Little Jo when she gets home from school.
You’ll notice Fluffy the cat has used up her nine lives. Poor Fluffy!
